Fish curry in mustard gravy is a typicalBengali dish.

Ingredients to make Fish in mustard gravy.

  • Fish pieces 500 gram
  • potatoes 2number
  • cauliflower florets 1cup
  • mustard oil 1cup
  • coriander leaves 1 cup
  • For marination:
  • red chilly powder 1table spoon
  • turmeric powder 1/2tea spoon
  • mustard powder 1table spoon
  • salt 1tea spoon
  • mustard oil 1table spoon
  • For curry:
  • onion paste 2table spoon
  • garlic paste 4table spoon
  • mustard powder 2table spoon
  • coriander powder1table spoon
  • red chilly powder 1table spoon
  • turmeric powder 1 1/2 tea spoon
  • Black pepper powder 1tea spoon
  • salt 1table spoon or according to taste
  • mustard oil 1cup
  • Chopped tomatoes 1cup
  • Longitudinally split green chillies 2numbers

How to make Fish in mustard gravy.

  1. Wash fish pieces thorouly under running water
  2. Mix 1table spoon vinegar
  3. Again wash under running water
  4. Take in a large bowl and mix all the ingredients of marination mentioned .
  5. Leave for 10minutes
  6. Heat a fry pan
  7. Add 2table spoon mustard oil,heat till smoke comes out.
  8. Put fish and shallow fry on medium heat till golden.
  9. Take out and keep aside.
  10. Heat another pan and add remaining oil.
  11. Heat till smoke comes out
  12. Lower the flame and put green chillies ino the oil
  13. Aall the ingredients of curry one by one
  14. Add alittle water and mix well
  15. Add potatoe pieces and cauliflower florets
  16. Mix well and add one cup water
  17. Cover and cook for5_7 minutes or till done
  18. Add 1/2more cup of water to adjust the gravy.
  19. Add fish to the gravy
  20. Cover and further cook for 2minutes on medium flame
  21. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves
  22. Serve with boild/steamed rice

Do we use powder of white or black mustard seeds? The gravy was bitter when I made it.
