ABOUT Instant Khaman Dhokla RECIPE

Rava and Besan Dhokla. The dhokla is a very famous dish from gujrat, this can be served for breakfast and also a snack with the evening tea.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Rava [semolina]- 1cup
  2. Besan [gram flour]- 1cup
  3. Curd- 1Cup
  4. Water - 1cup
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Haldi [turmeric powder]- 1tsp
  7. Hing [asafoetida]- 1/4tsp
  8. Ginger- 1/2inch
  9. Chili- 1
  10. Eno- 1 1/2tbsp
  11. For tempering:
  12. Oil- 1tbsp
  13. Mustard seeds- 1/2tsp
  14. dry Red chili- 2
  15. Curry leaves- few
  16. Sesame seeds- 1tbsp
  17. Sugar- 2tbsp
  18. Coriander leaves chopped- 2tbsp


  1. Take a bowl add besana, rava and curd to it , give it a mix.
  2. Then add water to it. Make a smooth paste but it should not be too thick or too watery. The consistency of the batter should be like a thick idli batter.
  3. Coarsely paste the ginger along with the green chillies in a mortar & pessel.
  4. Now add salt, asafoetida, turmeric powder , ginger chili paste to the batter and mix properly.
  5. Grease a tin or bowl with little oil. Pour the mixture into the bowl.
  6. Just before steaming add the eno to it and fold in. Do not over mix it.
  7. Steam the batter in a water bath. Steam it for about 20 minutes or till a knife comes out clean when poked. Allow it to cool a bit. Then de-mould the dhokla.
  8. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, chilli, curry leaves and allow it to crackle. Then add sesame seeds and allow to crackle again. Then add water and sugar to it.
  9. Allow the sugar to melt and pour the sugary water on the dhokla and let it stand for 30 mins.
  10. Then serve with mint chutney and sweet chutney.
