ABOUT Instant Khaman Dhokla RECIPE

Gujaratis are famous for their Dhoklas. You will never see any gujarati house who doesn't make them frequently. It's instant and tasty. My most of Non Gujju friends always complains that their Dhoklas are never like us. But I bet with this receipe anyone can make spongy and light Dhoklas.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Gram flour(Besan)- 11/2 cup
  2. Semolina(Rava)- 2 tbsp
  3. Ginger chilli paste- 11/2 tsp
  4. Sugar- 4 tsp
  5. Lemon juice- 1 tsp
  6. Salt-As required
  7. Water-1 cup
  8. Oil- 1 tsp for greasing and 2 tsp for Tempering
  9. For tempering:
  10. Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
  11. Sesame seeds- 11/2 tsp
  12. Curry leaves- 5-6
  13. Asafoetida- A pinch
  14. Green chilly- 1 no.
  15. Water-1/2 cup
  16. Corrinader and Fresh coconut


  1. Mix gram flour, Semolina, Sugar, Ginger chilli paste, lemon juice and salt. Add 3/4 cup of water and combine till well mixed.
  2. Grease a tray and keep steamer ready.
  3. At the time of streaming only add Eno and mix till light and fluffy.
  4. Pour on tray and give it a tap to spread equally.
  5. Steam for 10-12mins.
  6. Insert knife and check whether they are ready or not. Switch off the gas.
  7. For tempering: Heat oil and add mustard seeds. When they crackle add all items listed in tempering one by one. Switch off the gas and add 1/2 cup water. Keep it like that till it takes up all things well. Add on khaman. Keep them for 15 mins to soak nicely. Cut and garnish with corriander and fresh coconut.
  8. Serve with Green Chutney
