ABOUT Baked Onion Bhaji RECIPE

I tried it first time and it came out delicious. I have added onion at three stages- whole baked onion, chopped sauted onion for gravy and sliced fried onion for garnish.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For baked onion-
  2. 5-6 medium size onion
  3. Salt to taste
  4. 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
  5. 1/4 tsp amchoor powder
  6. 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  7. 1/4 tsp Fennel powder
  8. Less than 1/4 Tsp Turmeric powder
  9. For gravy-
  10. 2 onion finely chopped
  11. 1 tomato finely chopped
  12. 1/2 tsp ginger- garlic paste
  13. 1 green chilly chopped
  14. Pinch of Cinnamon pwd
  15. Pinch of cloves pwd
  16. Pinch of black cardamom powder
  17. 1 tsp Coriander powder
  18. 1/2 tsp garam masala
  19. 1 tbsp fresh cream
  20. 1/4 tsp deggi mirch
  21. Salt to taste
  22. For garnish-
  23. 1 Fried onion


  1. Wash and peel the onion, mix all dry spices in a bowl.
  2. add 1 tsp oil in dry spices and mix well.
  3. Add the + mark on onion with knife, without cutting from bottom. Fill the masala in onions.
  4. Apply some oil in cake tin as well as on the onions with the brush. Bake at 180° C in preheated oven for 10 mins.
  5. Take it out after 10 mins.
  6. For gravy- take 1 tbsp oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, pinch of asafoetida, and all the dry spices, saute for a min. Add chopped onion and cook for few minutes.
  7. Add chopped tomatoes, let it cook till the oil separates. Add cream and fenugreek leaves ,cook for 1 min and off the flame.
  8. Deep fry the thinly sliced onions for garnish. Keep aside.
  9. In a bowl or cake tin spread the gravy. Place baked onion on it.
  10. Garnish with fried onions.
