ABOUT Sweet Pongal RECIPE

Pongal a dish from Tamilnadu, made it in my way, main ingredients are rice and dal with tadka and served with lots of ghee ( basically khichdi). Sweet pongal is just like rice kheer but flavour of moong dal is there. Taste is awesome like heaven. Used date jaggery instead of normal jaggery, made it delicious. And of course served with ghee.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Roasted moong dal - 1/4 cup
  2. Gobindobhog rice - 1/4 cup ( small size and typical smell is there. Available in kolkata)
  3. Milk - 2 cup
  4. Water - 1 cup
  5. Date jaggery - 1/4 cup
  6. Ghee - 2 tablespoon
  7. Cardamom - 4- 5
  8. Bay leaves - 2
  9. Pinch of salt
  10. Cashew nuts -1/4 cup
  11. Raisins -1 tablespoon
  12. Chopped pista- 1 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Soak the rice and roasted moong dal for 2 hours.
  2. Heat ghee, add cardamom and bay leaves. Add water, soaked dal and rice, saute for 2 minutes.
  3. Add 1 cup water and 1 cup milk.
  4. Add rest of the milk after rice and dal are soft and make it thick.
  5. Add jaggery and pinch of salt, mix well.
  6. Add fried dry fruits.
  7. Serve with hot ghee.
