About Date & Walnut Cake Recipe

A recipe handed down to me by a friend. The rich brown colour and the tangy taste is unique to this cake. The preparation time is a little longer than other cakes but the effort is truly worth it.

Date & Walnut Cake

Ingredients to make Date & Walnut Cake

  • eggs 2
  • powdered sugar 115 gms
  • dates 230 gms
  • butter 115 gms
  • walnuts 50 gms
  • Vanilla essence 1 tsp
  • baking soda 3/4 tsp
  • flour 90 gms

How to make Date & Walnut Cake

  1. Roughly chop dates and soak overnight in ¼ cup of in water and ¼ tsp baking soda overnight.
  2. Sift flour and remaining baking soda. Set aside. Chop walnuts coarsely and dust them with flour.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until smooth and light. Whisk eggs by adding one by one.
  4. Now add vanilla essence along with soaked dates, which by now will turn into smooth pulp. Combine chopped walnuts into the above mixture.
  5. Pre heat your oven at 180°C. Take a baking dish and pour in cake mixture. Bake for 45 minutes or till cake tester/toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Take this out of oven and wrap in a clean hand towel. This cake will taste best when served following day.

My Tip:

This cake can be served as a dessert with vanilla ice cream. The preparation time for this cake is longer but its all worth it.
