ABOUT Mango pickle RECIPE

Here i prepared mango pickle,which is dakshina kannada special.This pickle goes well with any dish like dose,idli,white rice kocthilakki(brown rice) ganjji& curd rice.No meal is complete without the of pickle in houses of Dakshin Kannada.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Mangoes pieces.....1 bowl
  2. Crystal salt...1/2 kg
  3. Mustard.......50 gram
  4. Turmeric powder......1 small spoon
  5. pickle chilly / badigi red chilly......60 gram


  1. Wash and pat dry the raw mangoes.
  2. Take mangoes & cut in to small pieces.
  3. Take a glass or ceramic jar with airtight lid , add salt & mangoes mix well.
  4. keep this closed for 3 or 4 days.so that the mangoes pieces shrink with occasional mixing using dry spoon.
  5. Remove from the water & spread the mango pieces on a cotton cloth.
  6. To make the salty water, take 3 cups of salt & 4 cups of water in a pan & boil.Salt will from a glossy layer at the top .When it is ready, switch off the gas and coll this water.It should reach room temperature before using.
  7. Dry the red chilly and mustard seeds in the sun for a day.
  8. Using mixer jar make a fine paste of the red chilly & mustard, with salt water & mix turmeric powder . Pickle paste or masala is ready.
  9. Add dried mango pieces & pickle masala mix well.
  10. Adjust the consistency either by adding pickle masala.
  11. Store this air tight glass jar
  12. After 1 month pickle is ready.
