ABOUT Samosa baskets RECIPE

A deconstructed version of traditional samosa served in homemade pastry tart shells.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For baskets
  2. 3/4 Cup All purpose Flour
  3. 2 tbsp Oil
  4. 1 tsp ajwain
  5. Salt to taste
  6. For samosa filling
  7. 4 medium sized potatoes
  8. 1 tbsp oil
  9. 1 tsp jeera
  10. 1 tsp chopped green chillies
  11. A small inch ginger grated
  12. 1 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
  13. 1 tsp Coriander powder
  14. 1 tsp chaat masala
  15. 1/4 tsp garam masala
  16. 1 tsp Lemon juice
  17. Salt to taste
  18. 1 tbsp finely chopped Coriander leaves
  19. Some green chutney and tamarind chutney for serving
  20. Sev for garnish


  1. For baskets
  2. Knead the dough using the ingredients mentioned above and keep it aside for 10 minutes.
  3. Now divide the dough into 3 parts and roll into big thin rounds.
  4. Now cut it into small circles with the help of cookie cutter and press it into tart moulds.
  5. Deep fry in hot oil along with moulds in low to medium flame till the tarts get crispy and separated from moulds.
  6. Keep it aside until use.
  7. For stuffing
  8. Heat oil in a pan.Add jeera,green chillies and ginger.Saute for 2-3 minutes.
  9. Now on a low flame add all the masalas except salt and saute till fragrant.
  10. Now add boiled potatoes to it.Mix well.
  11. Add coriander leaves and lemon juice.Mix very well.
  12. Keep the stuffing aside to cool.
  13. Assembly
  14. Fill the baskets with the stuffing and top it with little green chutney and tamarind chutney.
  15. Top with some sev and finely chopped coriander and serve these samosa baskets immediately.
