Spinach chicken is a healthy and yummi power packed dish with vitamins and protiens,mildly spicy and light on the tummy. It is a north Indian dish and liked by all age group.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Chicken cut into medium size pieces-800 gram
  2. Spinach 400 gram
  3. For chicken marination
  4. lemon juice half teaspoon
  5. Turmeric powder half teaspoon
  6. Ginger garlic paste half teaspoon
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Other ingredients
  9. Oil 4 tablespoon
  10. Whole spices -3 bay leaves ,7peppercorns ,3 Green cardamom, one teaspoon cumin seeds
  11. Ginger garlic paste 1teaspoon
  12. Chicken masala 1 tablespoon
  13. Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon


  1. Firstly clean spinach and chicken pieces separately with running water 3-4 times.
  2. Marinate chicken pieces with 1/2 teaspoon salt,1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder,1 tablespoon lemon juice and 1 teaspoon ginger garlic mix it well and keep it aside for 1/2 hr.
  3. Boil enough water to blanch spinach ,when water is boiling rolling hot slowly dip in all the clean apinach leaves
  4. Blanched spinach for 2-3 minutes
  5. Take out blanched spinach from hot water and dip it in chilled water.after 2 minutes strain the water
  6. Make a puree from blanched spinach.
  7. Heat oil in a pan add all whole spices bay leaves,cumin seeds,2-3 green cardamom,cumin seeds,cinnamon stick,pepper corns
  8. Fry for a while untill nice aroma starts coming.
  9. Add in chopped onions fry untill light golden brown.
  10. Add in marinated chicken and fry for 2-3 minutes then add ginger garlic paste
  11. Add chicken masala,red chilli powder,chaat masaala powder
  12. Fry for 1 minute
  13. now add 1 cup water cover and cook for 20 minutes on medium flame in between open the lid and stir it
  14. After 20 minutes all water will dries up and chicken will be almost done
  15. Now add chopped tomatoes let it cook on medium flame until tomatoes completely become soft
  16. Now and 1 tbsp dry fenugreek leaves
  17. Add in spinach puree and mix with chicken and other spices properly.
  18. Cook for 2-3 minutes on high flame until it starts bubbling stir in between on regular intervals
  19. Add 1 lemon juice and 1 tablespoon butter and cook for 2-3 minutes on medium flame
  20. Drizzle some butter if you like and Serve hot with butter Naan,kulcha or with jeera rice.
