About Aloo Chole Recipe

A simple punjadi side dish, well loved by everyone at home.

Aloo Chole

Ingredients to make Aloo Chole

  • chickpeas 1 1/2 cups
  • potatoes 2
  • cumin 2 tsp
  • green chillies slit 2 - 4
  • ginger Garlic paste 2 tbsp
  • coriander powder 2 tsp
  • cumin powder 2 tsp
  • red chilli powder 1 or 1/2 tsp
  • Dry mango powder (amchur) 1/2 tsp
  • pomegranate seeds (anardana) 1 tbsp
  • Garam masala powder 1 tsp
  • tomatoes 2 medium
  • salt to taste

How to make Aloo Chole

  1. Wash and soak chickpeas in water overnight. Boil potatoes, peel and cut cubes of 1/2 inch sizes.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cumin seeds, green chillies, ginger garlic paste, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chilli powder, amchur powder, chopped tomatoes, one cup of vegetable stock or water and stir.
  3. In another frying pan heat some oil for frying, add potatoes and shallow fry till golden. Drain and keep aside.
  4. Add boiled chickpeas to the masala mix. Cook on high heat. Roast the cumin seeds and anardana and crush. Add fried potatoes to the chole and mix.
  5. Add in the crushed masala, garam masala and mix. Add in water if required.
  6. Adjust the seasoning in the chole and simmer for few minutes. Serve hot.
