ABOUT kesar Shrikhand RECIPE

Shrikhand is Traditional Sweet dish from Gujarat and Maharashtra. It's made from hung or strained yogurt with sugar. Mostly it's eaten with Puri.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 6 cups of yogurt ( I used full cream yogurt)
  2. 1/2 cup of icing sugar
  3. Few strands of Saffron/Kesar
  4. 1 tsp of cardamon powder/elaichi powdef
  5. 2 tbsp of warm milk


  1. Add yogurt to muslin cloth and bring all the ends together and tie them. Gently press it so that water will start dripping
  2. Place strainer in deep bowl. Pace tied yogurt in the strainer, so that all water from yogurt is drained completely ( it will take 6 to 7 hours
  3. After 7 hours water will be drained and
  4. Add this hung yogurt in a bowl and whisk for few seconds and Add sugar
  5. whisk till its smooth and fluffy
  6. Warm milk in a bowl and add kesar to it and keep aside
  7. Add elaichi and kesar mixture to whisked hung yogurt and whisk for 1 minute
  8. Remove Shrikhand in serving bowl
  9. sprinkle crushed badam and pista Keep in fridge till you serve it
