Tantalizingly yum and lipsmacking- this is what one has to say about it. This Punjabi delicacy has made it's way into millions of hearts and homes in India. It remains a popular choice of many and hence is relished on any given day. Best enjoyed with bhature, however it is equally yum with parathas or rotis too.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Chickpeas 400 gm soaked
  2. Tamarind paste 3 to 4 tbsp
  3. Onions chopped 2
  4. Tomatoes chopped 1
  5. Chana masala 2 tbsp
  6. Garam masala 1 tsp
  7. Red chilli powder 2 tbsp
  8. Turmeric 1/2 tsp
  9. Roasted cumin powder 1 tsp
  10. Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  11. Oil 4 to 5 tbsp
  12. Coriander leaves chopped 4 tbsp
  13. Green chillies for garnishing 5


  1. In a pot, heat oil and saute the onions first along with the ginger garlic paste.
  2. Simultaneously pressure cook the soaked chickpeas for 4 whistles.
  3. After the onions are done, add the chopped tomatoes and the tamarind paste along with the spices.
  4. Spice level can be adjusted according to taste.
  5. Cover and simmer until done for about 10 minutes.
  6. Finally add the boiled chickpeas to it and give it all a good stir.
  7. Cover and cook just for about 2 to 3 minutes. Also sprinkle the garam masala.
  8. Garnish with coriander and green chillies.
