ABOUT CHINESE BREAD STICK(YOUTIAO/CAKIO) RECIPE

Fried Chinese bread stick also known as Chinese cruller, Youtiao, cakio etc.is a salted long strip fried till golden brown. Youtiao is extremely versatile, eaten at morning breakfast accompanied with coffee, rice porridge and congee or used to dip in any sauce or soups.

Ingredients Serving: 1

  1. All purpose flour 100gms
  2. Baking powder 5gms
  3. Salt 1/4 teaspoon
  4. Oil 1/4tablespoon
  5. Water 60ml
  6. Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mix all the dry ingredients well.
  2. Add oil and water and knead well for 5 minutes till shiny and smooth.
  3. Cover the dough and rest it for 2hours.
  4. Sprinkle flour on a dusting board and roll out into thin flat dough about 3 to 4 mm.
  5. Cut the dough into 1 inch wide and 6 inch long strip.

  7. Dip a wooden or metal skewer in water and dab in the center of the dough strip.
  8. Place another strip on top of the dabbed strip.
  9. Press the skewer on the top of the second strip. This will help the strip stick together and remain fused during frying.
  10. Deep fried 180 degree centigrade and constantly flip the bread stick to ensure it puffs evenly.
  11. Fry one at a time.
  12. Serve hot or store it in airtight container
  13. Deep fry till golden brown. Serve with soup, coffee, sauce etc..
