ABOUT Palak Methi Muthiya RECIPE

This is a typical gujrati dish made up of wheat flour,rice flour,sorghum flour,spinach and fenugreek leaves.As it is a steamed dish good for weight watchers too.Nutritional value is very good as these dumplings are iron and vitamin rich dish.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Wheat flour-3/4 cup
  2. Sorghum flour-1/4 cup
  3. Rice flour-1/4 cup
  4. Gram flour-1 tbsp
  5. Chopped Spinach-1 cup
  6. Chopped Fenugreek leaves-1 cup
  7. Ginger chilli garlic paste-1 tbsp
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  10. Asafoetida-1/4 tsp
  11. Garam masala-1/2 tsp
  12. Coriander Cumin powder-1 tsp
  13. Lemon juice-1 tsp
  14. Sugar-1 tsp
  15. Eno/soda- 1/2 tsp
  16. Curd-2 tbsp
  17. Oil-1 tbsp
  18. For Tempering:
  19. Oil-1 tbsp
  20. Mustard seeds-1 tsp
  21. Sesame seeds-1 tsp
  22. For garnishing:-
  23. Chopped coriander 1 tsp


  1. Mix the flours in a big mixing bowl.
  2. Now add the spices,salt,curd,oil,leafy vegetables and knead a dough without adding water
  3. Heat the steamer. Make elongated cylindrical balls from the dough
  4. Arrange all the muthiya in the steamer.
  5. Steam for 12 to 15 minutes.Insert a knife or toothpick to check if its done. Serve AS-IS or temper and serve
  6. Cut the muthiyas into about 1 cm pieces.
  7. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add sesame seeds and mix
  8. Add muthiya pieces and gently mix with the tempering.Saute for 1 to 2 minutes till they become slightly brown.
  9. Garnish with coriander.Serve hot with green chutney.
