Prepared with the not-so-hot variety of chillies, this one can be the star of any meal!

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Green chilies ( variety with less heat) - 1 cup heaped
  2. Gingelly oil. 1 tablespoon
  3. Mustard seeds. 1 teaspoon
  4. Urad dal. 1 teaspoon
  5. Coconut grated. 1 tablespoon
  6. Cashews 2 teaspoons
  7. Tamarind juice. 1/4 cup
  8. Jaggery. 2 - 3 teaspoons
  9. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Slit green chilies and remove seeds, retain seeds for spicy version. Chop chilies into long pieces
  2. Soak cashew nuts and coconut in warm water for 30 minutes. Grind them to smooth paste
  3. Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds
  4. Add urad dal and roast until golden brown
  5. Add chopped chilies and saute until soft
  6. Add salt, tamarind juice.Mix well
  7. Bring to a boil.Add the ground cashew-coconut paste
  8. Bring to a boil, add jaggery and mix well, cook until it starts thickening
  9. Serve hot with rice/pongal
