Mangai vatha kuzhambu its name. Its Tangy, spicy gravy and we add adding raw mango and drumstick gave extra tasty. Its for specially First Trimster praganent woman.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Raw mango - 5 pieces ( 1/2 no)
  2. Drumstick -2 (for taste optional)
  3. Tamarind - Big gooseberry size
  4. Sambar powder - 1.5 tbsp ( Add 2 tbsp for more spicy kuzhambu)
  5. Turmeric Powder - 1/4 Tsp
  6. Grated jaggery – 2 tsp
  7. Salt & water - as needed To temper
  8. Cooking oil or Gingely oil - 1.5 tbsp
  9. Mustard seeds - 1/ 2 tsp
  10. Urad dal - 1 tsp
  11. Cumin seeds/Jeera - 1 tsp
  12. Toor Dal - 1 tsp
  13. Small onions - 10 nos
  14. Garlic cloves - 15 nos
  15. Curry leaves - few


  1. Wash and slice the raw mango into big pieces.Cook the mango pieces adding 2 cups of water. It will take 5 minutes to cook.
  2. Remove the cooked mango pieces in a plate and soak the tamarind in the remaining mango cooked water.
  3. Chop the onions, garlic cloves and curry leaves.
  4. Heat oil in a kadai and splutter mustard seeds, urad dal, toor dal and cumin seeds.
  5. Saute onions,  garlic cloves and curry leaves until onion turns transparent. And add Drumstick with water and salt after it cooked.
  6. Take the extract from soaked tamarind and add it to the sauteed onion mixture.
  7. Add turmeric powder, sambar powder, jaggery. Boil for 5-10 minutes till the gravy thickens.
  8. Finaly add the cooked mango pieces, give a boil and switch off the flame after it thickens.
  9. Seasoning
  10. Oil in pan and add fried onion (sun dried black ball specially prepared) Or Musted .
  11. Transfer the gravy to a vessel and cover it till you serve.
