Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. For tamarind pulp
  2. 1 gooseberry size tamarind
  3. 1 medium chopped tomatoes
  4. 1 cup water
  5. To sauté and to Grind:
  6. 1 tsp coconut oil
  7. 2 chopped small onions
  8. 3 garlic chopped
  9. few curry leaves
  10. 1tsp coriander seeds
  11. 2 tsp cumin seeds
  12. 1 1/2 tbsp pepper corns
  13. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  14. To temper:
  15. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  16. 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  17. few curry leaves
  18. salt as required
  19. water as required
  20. For garnishing:
  21. few chopped coriander leaves


  1. Boil tamarind and tomatoes by adding water in a medium high flame.Allow it to cool,extract pulp from the boiled mixture and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan,add onion,curry leaves,garlic,coriander seeds,pepper corn and cumin seeds.Fry it for 5 mins in a medium high flames.Grind it to a fine paste by adding turmeric powder and little water.
  3. Heat oil in a pan,add mustard seeds,asafoetida.Let it splutter.
  4. Add curry leaves,tamarind pulp,grinder paste,Water and salt,boil it for 5 mins in medium flame.
  5. Switch off the stove and garnish with coriander leaves.

It goes well with plain rice.
