Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Chana Daal 1/2 cup washed and soaked overnight
  2. Moong Daal 1/2 cup washed and soaked overnight
  3. Massor Daal 1/2 cup washed and soaked overnight
  4. Water 4-5 cups/as much needed to soak and cook
  5. Instant white oats 1.5 cups
  6. Green Cardamom pods 4-5 pieces
  7. Black Cardamom 2 pieces
  8. Star anise 2
  9. Cinnamon sticks 2
  10. Black pepper corns 8-10 pieces
  11. cumin seeds 1 Tb
  12. Cloves 3-4 pieces
  13. Fennel seeds 1/2 Tb
  14. Small Bay leafs 2 pieces
  15. Nutmeg powder 1/4 ts
  16. Mace powder 1/4 ts
  17. Turmeric powder 1 Tb
  18. Red chilli powder 1 Tb
  19. Salt to taste
  20. Oil 1/4 cup
  21. 2 large onion sliced
  22. Ginger-Garlic paste 1 Tb
  23. Chicken boneless 500 gm
  24. Whisked curd 1 cup
  25. 1/2 inch ginger cut into julienne
  26. Handful of chopped coriander leaves
  27. Chaat masala 1/2 ts
  28. Juice of 1/2 Lemon

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook the lentils until cooked with enough water. do. it overcook
  2. Add oats to the lentils and mix well
  3. Add 1/2 cup water and let simmer on Low heat covered till oats soften
  4. In a blender dry grind both Cardamoms, pepper corns,star anise,cloves, fennel seeds, Bay leaves and cumin seeds into a fine powder
  5. place the ground powder in a bowl and add turmeric, red chilli, nutmeg, mace powders and salt. mix well
  6. Heat 2 Tb oil in a wok and sauté the onions till brown
  7. Add ginger garlic paste and chicken
  8. Sauté covered till chicken changes colour slightly
  9. Add spice mix and curd and cook covered for 8-10 minutes
  10. Add the lentils-oats and mix
  11. Add some water if needed and blend the mixture well making sure the purée is smooth and without lumps
  12. Place in a serving bowl and add lemon juice,coriander leaves and Chaat masala
  13. Garnish with ginger julienne and serve hot with rice/breads of your choice
