Was bored of regular fish tawa fry, fish masala fry, fish gravy,etc.. tried Chettinad masala.. wow.. lovely it turned out.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 6 pieces of fish
  2. 2 teaspoon oil for frying fish
  3. To dry roast and powder:
  4. 1 teaspoon cumin seeds/ jeera
  5. 1 teaspoon fennel seeds/ saunf
  6. 1 & 1/2 teaspoon coriander seeds
  7. 1 & 1/2 teaspoon pepper corns
  8. 1/2 teaspoon mustard
  9. 10 - 15 curry leaves
  10. To grind:
  11. 1 - 2 teaspoon of prepared masala powder
  12. Salt as per taste
  13. 5 teaspoon tamarind pulp
  14. 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  15. 1/2 tomato
  16. Little oil for grinding/ little bit of water
  17. 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  18. 1 tablespoon corn flour (to bind)


  1. Take the fish slices. Clean it nicely and keep aside.
  2. Dry roast all the ingredients under section "to dry roast and powder" separately and allow it to cool.
  3. Once cooled powder it and keep aside.
  4. Now in a jar add all the ingredients under section "to grind" and grind it to a thick paste.
  5. Note: the masala prepared is fresh. So add in the powder as per your choice of spiciness.
  6. Now apply generously the grinded paste on the fish.
  7. Marinate it for an hour.
  8. On a tawa add oil, fry the fish on a medium flame.
  9. Flip over and fry on the other side.
  10. Serve hot with lemon or curd rice.
