ABOUT MURUNGAI KEERAI THOGAYAL RECIPE

Murungai keerai thogayal is a healthy south Indian side dish recipe. It is loaded with goodness of drumstick leaves. This thick thogayal can be served to rice with appalam.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Murungai keerai – 2 cups
  2. Channa dal – 3 tbsp
  3. Urad dal – 2 tbsp
  4. Red chilli – 3
  5. Coconut – 3 tbsp
  6. Tamarind – lemon size
  7. Salt – as required
  8. TEMPERING:
  9. Oil – 2 tsp
  10. Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  11. Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  12. Curry leaves – 1 sprig
  13. Cashews – 10

Instructions

  1. Wash the drumstick leaves and keep aside. Add a tsp of oil to pan. Add channa dal, Urad dal and red chilli to it and roast until it turns golden.
  2. Now add tamarind and drumstick leaves to it and saute until it shrinks and slightly turns color. Allow it to cool.
  3. Once cooled, add it to blender along with coconut, required salt and little water. Grind into smooth paste. Transfer into serving bowl.
  4. For tempering, heat a pan with oil, add mustard seeds and Cumin seeds. Once it splutters, add Cashews and curry leaves. Stir well and add the tempering to chutney.
  5. Mix and serve it with hot rice. The healthy murungai keerai thogayal ready.
