Bengali mutton curry with steamed rice

Ingredients to make Bengali mutton curry with steamed rice

  • Mutton 500 gms
  • 4 medium size onions chopped
  • 1 tbs garlic paste
  • Half tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 chopped tomato
  • 100 gm whipped curd
  • Dry masala:
  • haldi powder
  • red chilli powder
  • cumin powder
  • coriander powder
  • Whole garam masala (1 bay leaf, few green cardamom,few cloves,a stick of cinnamon)
  • Garam masala powder
  • mustard oil for cooking
  • salt to taste
  • 2 potatoes halved and fried.

How to make Bengali mutton curry with steamed rice

  1. Marinate the mutton with half garlic paste, mustard oil,curd and keep it for few hours.
  2. Now heat oil add the bay leaf and rest of the whole spices
  3. As it splutters add the chopped onion and then the ginger garlic paste
  4. Keep stirring for few minutes and then add the dry powders one by one.
  5. Keep stirring till oil separates .
  6. Then add the tomatoes.
  7. Let it become mushy.
  8. Add the marinated mutton along with the fried potatoes
  9. Keep stirring till oil comes out and the water dries out.
  10. Add a cup of hot water and cover with a lid
  11. Keep stirring in between till the mutton becomes soft and tender.
  12. Finally add some garam masala powder and switch off the gas.

My Tip:

To make it faster you can pressure cook it.
