Ingredients to make Navane Pongal (with veggies)

  • 1/2 cup split moong dal + navane (foxtail millet)
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 3 green chillies
  • 1/2 carrot grated
  • 1/4 cup beans + capsicum
  • 1/2 teaspoon jeera
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper corns
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • salt as per taste
  • Few coriander leaves
  • For tempering:
  • 2 teaspoon ghee
  • Little mustard seeds
  • Few curry leaves

How to make Navane Pongal (with veggies)

  1. Soak foxtail millet (navane) and split moong dal for atleast 15 minutes.
  2. In a cooker add in water and bring it to boil on a medium flame.
  3. Add in grated carrot, chopped beans, chopped capsicum, coriander leaves, ginger and slit green chillies.
  4. After few minutes, add in the soaked millet + dal.
  5. Add in jeera, pepper corns, turmeric and salt.
  6. Close the lid and cook for 2 to 3 whistles or until done.
  7. Tempering: add ghee in a pan. Heat it. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves and allow it to splutter.
  8. Now add the tempering to the pongal. Mix well. Serve hot with curd or Chutney of your choice.

My Tip:

Millets absrob more water than rice. So add water accordingly. Use veggies of your choice. Adjust chillies as per taste.
