ABOUT Bajra Khichdi RECIPE

When one thinks of homely food, Khichdi is the first dish that pops in our mind. Bajra Khichdi is a special dish native to the states of Haryana and Rajasthan. With the right ingredients, rich taste and mild flavours, it is both comforting and satiating and makes a lovely meal when served with a cup of curd or raita.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1/2 cup bajra
  2. 1/2 cup Chana dal
  3. 1/2 tsp hing
  4. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  5. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  6. 1 tbsp ghee
  7. Salt to taste


  1. Soak bajra overnight or for around 8 hours in plain water.
  2. Take a pan and add bajra, chana dal , turmeric and salt to it. Add water and cook it.
  3. You can even combine the bajra, dal, salt, turmeric and 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker, mix well and pressure cook for 4 whistles.
  4. Heat the ghee in a deep non-stick pan and add the cumin seeds. When the seeds crackle, add the hing and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
  5. Add the cooked bajra- dal mixture, mix well and cook while stirring occasionally. Serve immediately.
