It's an oily fish and in the same category of Boal and Aar fish. Basically from the cat fish family.

Pangash Maacher kossa

Ingredients to make Pangash Maacher kossa

  • 5 pieces of Pangash fish.
  • Whole garam masala.
  • 2 teaspoon ginger, garlic paste.
  • 2 chopped onions
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • Green chilli paste - 1 tsp
  • Chopped fresh cilantro.
  • salt
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder.
  • 1 tsp red chilly powder
  • 1 big tomato
  • turmeric powder - 1 tsp

How to make Pangash Maacher kossa

  1. Marinate the fish with little vinegar, salt and haldi.
  2. Then fry the fishes in mustard oil like medium fry and keep it separately.
  3. In the same oil put whole garam Masala like cinnamon, cardamom and cloves.
  4. Add chopped onion to it. Fry them til it's golden brown.
  5. To it add the ginger ,garlic & green chilli paste and saute for 5 more mins.
  6. Then add the powder spices and chopped tomatoes. Saute for some time till oil and Masala separates.
  7. Add salt and haldi and then pour water. Cover it wid a lid.
  8. After 2 mins add the fishes and slow cook it for 7 to 10 mins.
  9. Before serving sprinkle some garam Masala and chopped cilantro.

My Tip:

If the fish is too smelly then it can be soaked in vinegar for 10 mins then washed again.
