ABOUT Ellu Thuvaiyal/ Black Sesame seeds Thuvaiyal RECIPE

This is a very nutritious dish with high iron content. It is very good for girls while they attain puberty. It is usually taken with Ulunthu Satham which is a speciality of Tirunelveli in Tamilnadu. The combination serves as a healthy meal during the menstrual days for women.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Ellu/Black Sesame seeds - 3 tablespoon
  2. Red chillies - 4
  3. Tamarind - 1/2 teaspoon
  4. Oil - 1/4 teaspoon
  5. salt as needed

Instructions

  1. Soak tamarind in little warm water and set aside.
  2. Heat kadai, dry roast ellu seeds till they splutter. Do it in low flame ithout burning them. This will take atleast 3 minutes.
  3. Transfer to a plate. In the same kadai add 1/4 tsp oil and roast the chillies for half a minute or so.
  4. Let cool and transfer the sesame seeds, red chilli, tamarind and little tamarind soaked water to mixie. Add salt and grind to a paste.
  5. Serve with Ulunthu Satham/Urad dal rice.
