ABOUT Classic Shepherd's pie RECIPE

A truly easy, satisfying comfort food. It can be made with the meat of your choice, veggies if preferred and viola, you have yourself a great family treat!

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1 large onion
  2. 2 large potatoes
  3. 4 garlic pearls chopped finely
  4. 250 gms minced goat/lamb’s meat
  5. 150 gms deskined and chopped veggies (sweet corn,French beans, green peas,carrots,etc)
  6. Salt to taste
  7. 2 tablespoon freshly crushed black pepper
  8. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  9. 1 tablespoon parsley finely chopped
  10. 300 gm finely grated cheddar/parmesan cheese
  11. 2 tablespoon olive oil
  12. 1 tablespoon red paprika/chilli flakes
  13. 1 cup of vegetable/meat stock
  14. 50 gms unsalted butter
  15. 4 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a non stick pan and add onions and garlic
  2. Sauté for 2-3 minutes on medium heat and add chopped veggies followed by minced meat
  3. Next add, salt to taste, 1 tbspn crushed black pepper and Worcestershire sauce
  4. Mix well and sauté for 5-7 minutes on medium heat
  5. Add paprika and mix well
  6. Reduce heat. Add meat stock.
  7. covered until veggies soften
  8. Meanwhile pressure cook or boil the potatoes
  9. After they cool off, deskin and mash them
  10. Place them in a bowl and add butter. Mix well
  11. Add salt to taste, remaining black pepper, milk and cheese
  12. Mix all the ingredients well
  13. Once the veggies soften and meat is semi cooked, take the pan off heat
  14. Grease a baking dish with some oil or melted butter
  15. Add the meat-veggies mix and layer well with the help of a spatula
  16. Add the mashed potato on TOP .spread and layer evenly over the min ed meat layer
  17. Bake at 180 degree celcius for 30-40 minutes or until the potato layer shows a lovely golden brown colour
  18. Take off oven and let cool a bit for sometime
  19. Sprinkle some finely chopped parsley on top(Optional)
  20. Serve hot accompanied with breads or soups of your choice
