ABOUT Ridge gourd chutney RECIPE

Ridge gourd chutney is very delicious and goes well with rice and roti. It is high in dietary fiber and low in saturated fat, cholesterol and calories. Apart from the regular tomato, onion, mint and coriander chutney, I prepare this chutney for rice and roti for a change.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Chana daal 2 tbsp
  2. Urad daal 2 tbsp
  3. Ridge gourd 2
  4. Garlic 5 cloves
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Tamarind 1 inch
  7. Red chilli 6
  8. Curry leaves 10 count
  9. Coconut 1/4 cup
  10. Oil as required


  1. Peel the ridge gourd and keep it aside, heat oil in a non stick pan.
  2. Fry urad dal, chana dal till it turns to brown colour and take it out.
  3. Add 1 tsp oil to the same pan, fry the ridge gourd peeled skin, red chili, curry leaves till it turns brown and add coconut fry for some time and take it out.
  4. Add tamarind, garlic to the same pan, fry for some time and take it out. Set aside to cool.
  5. Grind everything with water and salt. Serve this chutney with roti or rice.

it's the peel you use and not the ridge gourd ..am I correct. this is what I cud make out from the recipe.
