About Shorshe Narkel Chingri Recipe

Shorshe Narkel Chingri is from Bengali Cuisine. It is prawns cooked in mustard and coconut paste. The recipe is quite simple with just few basic ingredients but it is at the same time delicious, rich and flavorful dish. It is a very popular Bengali dish, perfect with piping hot steamed rice.

Shorshe Narkel Chingri

Ingredients to make Shorshe Narkel Chingri

  • 500 gms Prawns
  • ½ cup coconut Paste
  • ¼ cup mustard paste
  • 4 tbsps mustard oil
  • 2 green chillies slit
  • ½ tsp kalonji
  • ½ tsp red chilly powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • water as required

How to make Shorshe Narkel Chingri

  1. Marinate prawns in little turmeric powder and salt for few mins.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Fry the marinated prawns for 3-4 mins until it changes its colour. Remove and keep aside. 
  3. In the same oil saute the kalonji and green chillies for a min.
  4. Add the coconut paste and saute till oil separates.
  5. Add mustard paste and saute for a min.
  6. Add the turmeric powder, garam, chilly powder, salt to taste and mix well.
  7. Add water as required and let it come to a boil. Then add the fried prawns and simmer for 10-15 mins or until you get a thick consistency gravy.
  8. Your shorshe narkel chingri is ready to be served. Enjoy with piping hot steamed rice.
