Ingredients to make rajasthani moong dal halwa

  • 1 cup split green gram skinless/dhuli moong ki dal
  • 1 cup ghee
  • 3/4 cup khoya/mawa
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • 10-12 raisins
  • 8-10 cashews chopped
  • 1 tsp chopped cashews for garnishing

How to make rajasthani moong dal halwa

  1. wash and soak moong dal overnight in enough water
  2. drain and grind the moong dal to a slightly coarse paste without using water
  3. heat ghee in a non stick pan
  4. add moong dal paste and mix well
  5. reduce the flame to low and saute stirring continuously till golden brown
  6. heat sugar and water in another pan
  7. cook till sugar dissolves completely
  8. add milk to moong dal and mix well
  9. add khoya, cardamom powder, cashews, raisins and sugar syrup
  10. mix well and cook on low flame for 5 minutes
  11. switch off the flame and transfer in a serving dish
  12. garnish with cashews and serve hot
