About Fish curry (kolkata style) Recipe

A spicy mouth watering Bengali Delicacy.

Fish curry (kolkata style)

Ingredients to make Fish curry (kolkata style)

  • For preparing masala
  • Mangur fish - 2 kg
  • Yellow mustard - 100 gm
  • haldi- 2 tspn
  • chilli powder - 2 tspn
  • Dhaniya powder - 4 tspn
  • tomatoes - 4
  • Black pepper - 1/2 tspn
  • salt
  • garlic -4 to 5 leaves
  • For gravy
  • oil - 4 tspn
  • Yellow mustard- 1 pinch
  • Red chilli - 2
  • Tejpatta - 1
  • water - 6 cup
  • coriander leaves

How to make Fish curry (kolkata style)

  1. Clean the fish, marinate with haldi, salt, chilli powder, garlic paste.
  2. Pan fry the fish and keep it aside.
  3. For masala & gravy.
  4. Grind the mustard, garlic together with little water in grinder.
  5. Add dhaniya powder, haldi, chilli powder, salt, pepper to it and mix. The paste is ready.
  6. Heat oil,add mustard seeds, red chillies, tej patta and allow them to crackle.
  7. Now add the paste prepared before and cook till it changes color from yellow to brown.
  8. Keep on stirring otherwise it will stick to the bottom.
  9. Once it gets brown, add chopped tomatoes, salt and keep on stirring till the tomatoes get cooked.
  10. Add water and cover it and boil it for 2 to 3 min.
  11. Add the fried fish to it. Let it boil it once. Then switch off the flame.
  12. Garnish with coriander leaves.
