Dal chawal is a simple and tasty recipe as one can think when it is served with fried whole dried red chillis, the taste will get doubled.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 3 cups of regular rice
  2. 1 cup arhar daal
  3. 3-4 garlic cloves
  4. 1 and 1/2 -2 tsp red chilli powder
  5. 1- 1 and 1/2 tsp haldi powder
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Water
  8. 4-5 whole dried red chillies

Instructions

  1. Soak the rice for 15 mins. Soak the daal as well for 15 mins.
  2. In a pressure cooker, add the daal, crushed garlic, red chilli powder, haldi, salt and water. The water should be atleast 2-2 and 1/2 inches above the level of daal. Cook until 4-5 whistles blow.
  3. For the rice, take the rice in a pot and add atleast 6 cups of water and salt to it. Let it cook until they are tender. Strain the rice when they are done.
  4. Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan and fry the whole dried red chillies.
  5. Take some rice in a plate, pour some daal on top and enjoy eating it with the fried whole dried red chillies.
