About Iilish tel jhal/ Hilsa fish in mustard oil gravy Recipe

Its the favourite dish of all the bengalies and cooked with very few simple ingredients.

Ingredients to make Iilish tel jhal/ Hilsa fish in mustard oil gravy

  • Hilsa fish 4 big pieces marinated with salt and haldi [turmeric powder]
  • mustard oil around 1/2 cup.
  • Slit green chilli 8 nos.
  • Nigella seeds for tempering.
  • salt
  • turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp

How to make Iilish tel jhal/ Hilsa fish in mustard oil gravy

  1. Take a wok and pour mustard oil about 1/2 cup.
  2. For tempering use nigela seeds and then add the fish pieces.
  3. Turn over the fishes within 1 min.
  4. Add 1 cup of water to the wok.
  5. Turmeric around 2 teaspoon should be added. Then the salt.
  6. Put 4 silt green chilli and cover the wok with a lid and cook in low flame.
  7. After 10 mins add the rest of the green chilli and then dish out.

My Tip:

The amount of mustard oil and water should be proportionate.
