Fish is the best protein with less calorie intake. And when it comes to a hassel free fish eating I would recommend this dish where the fish is De-Boned and goes well with plain rice. In bengali or rather Bangladeshi terms it is called bharta which means Mash.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Rohu fish 250 gms or 6 pieces from the stomach side or ( peti pieces in bengali).
  2. Dori, tilapia or salmon any kind of fish can be used but Rohu fish tastes better.
  3. 2 onions sliced.
  4. 2 red whole chilli fried in oil and mashed.
  5. 2 cloves of garlic and 1 inch of ginger grated and fried in oil and kept aside.
  6. Chopped fresh corriander.
  7. 3 tablespoon of mustard oil, olive oil can be used too.
  8. 2 chopped green chilli ( optional).
  9. 1 small tomato fine chopped.
  10. Salt to taste.


  1. Marinate the fish pieces and fry them in mustard oil.
  2. De-Bone the fishes and shred it and keep in a big mixing bowl.
  3. Fry the red whole chilli and crush it and put it in the bowl along with the fish.
  4. Fry the chopped ginger & garlic and put in the same bowl.
  5. Take the sliced onion and put in the bowl.
  6. Add the fresh corriander to it also.
  7. Lastly add 2 tablespoon of mustard oil and give all the ingredients a good mash with your hands.
  8. Add salt and if required another teaspoon of mustard oil can be added to the bharta.
  9. Then serve it with piping hot rice. It tastes heavenly.
  10. Olive oil can be used in case anybody doesn't like mustard oil.
