ABOUT Ek toap na daal bhaat RECIPE

This is a spicy complete one pot meal traditionally prepared in Gujarati villages on a chulha.As it was prepared in one big vessel on fire and simmered it is called as ek toap na daal bhaat.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. rice 1 cup
  2. Tuvar daal 1/3 cup
  3. Green peas 1/4 cup
  4. ghee 3 tbsp
  5. Adafetida 1/4 tsp
  6. turmeric 1/2 tsp
  7. salt
  8. Baby potatoes 4
  9. Baby brinjals 4
  10. Small onions 5
  11. For stuffing:
  12. Grated fresh coconut /Dessicated coconut 1/2 cup
  13. Sesame seeds 1 tbsp
  14. coriander powder 2 tbsp
  15. Red chilli powder 1&1/2 tbsp
  16. sugar 1 tbsp
  17. lemon juice 1 tsp
  18. coriander 1/3 cup
  19. salt
  20. Asafetida 1/4 tsp
  21. ginger garlic paste 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. PREPARE 1 CUP RICE,1/3 CUP TUVAR DAAL,1/4 CUP GREEN PEAS ,4 SMALL POTATOES,4 SMALL BRINJALS AND 5 ONIONS.WASH AND SOAK RICE AND DAAL FOR 1/2 AN HOUR.
  2. FOR THE STUFFING PREPARE 1 TSP GINGER GARLIC PASTE,2 TBSP CORIANDER POWDER,1/2 CUP GRATED/DESSICATED COCONUT,1 TBSP SESAME SEEDS,1&1/2 TBSP RED CHILLI POWDER,1/4 SP ASAFETIDA,1 TBSP SUGAR,1 TSP LEMON JUICE AND SALT.
  3. ADD ALL INGREDIENTS ONE BY ONE IN A BOWL.
  4. MIX EVERYTHING WELL.
  5. CUT THE POTATOES,BRINJAL AND ONIONS CROSSWISE .CUT UPTO 3/4TH DEEP ONLY.
  6. NOW FILL THE STUFFING IN ALL THE VEGETABLES.
  7. TAKE A COOKER AND ADD 2 TBSP GHEE IN IT.ADD ASAFETIDA.
  8. ADD 1/2 TSP TURMERIC AND THEN DRAINED RICE AND DAAL.SAUTE FOR A MINUTE..
  9. PUT ALL THE STUFFED VEGETABLES NOW.
  10. ADD LITTLE SALT AND THE REMAINING STUFFING MASALA.ADD 2 & 1/2 CUPS OF HOT WATER.
  11. ADD THE GREEN PEAS AND MIX LIGHTLY.CLOSE COOKER AND TAKE 4 WHISTLES ON HIGH FLAME.
