Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. For outer cover 2 cup wheat flour
  2. salt to taste
  3. water as required
  4. For filling
  5. 2 cup chana dal
  6. 4-5 green chillies
  7. 12-13 garlic cloves
  8. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  9. 1/2 tsp asafoetida
  10. 1 tsp turmeric
  11. Handful chopped fresh coriander leaves
  12. salt to taste
  13. For tempring
  14. 1 tsp cumin
  15. 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  16. 4-5 curry leaves
  17. 1 tbsp ghee

Instructions

  1. SOAK 2 CUPS CHANA DAL IN WATER FOR 1 HOUR
  2. DRAIN, ADD THE CHANA DAL, 4-5 GREEN CHILLIES, 14-15 GARLIC CLOVES TO A MIXER JAR, BLEND
  3. ADD 1 TSP TURMERIC, SALT TO TASTE INTO THE GROUND MIX
  4. ADD 1/2 TSP ASAFOETIDA, 1 TSP CUMIN SEEDS, A HANDFUL OF CHOPPED FRESH CORIANDER, MIX, SET ASIDE
  5. TAKE 2 CUPS WHEAT FLOUR, ADD SALT TO TASTE, ADD SUFFICIENT WATER TO KNEAD INTO A SOFT DOUGH
  6. DIVIDE THE DOUGH INTO SMALL BALLS, ROLL OUT INTO THICK ROTIS
  7. CUT OUT SMALL POORIS
  8. ADD 1 TSP READY FILLING ON TOP, FOLD & SEAL THE EDGES LIKE THIS
  9. ADD 1 TBSP OIL INTO BOILING WATER, ADD ALL THE FARAS
  10. COOK FOR 7-8 MINS, UNTIL THEY TURN SOFT & FLOAT ON TOP
  11. DRAIN THE WATER, ALLOW THEM TO COOL
  12. CUT THE FARAS INTO 1 INCH PIECES
  13. HEAT 1 TBSP GHEE, ADD 1 TSP CUMIN SEEDS, 1/4 TSP ASAFOETIDA, 5-7 CURRY LEAVES
  14. ADD THE FARAS, FRY UNTIL THEY TURN CRISP
  15. ADD 1/4 CUP FRESH, 2 CHOPPED TOMATOES, CORIANDER, 4 GREEN CHILLIES, 3-5 GARLIC CLOVES TO A MIXER JAR
  16. ADD SALT TO TASTE, BLEND
  17. THE CHUTNEY IS READY
  18. SERVE THE HOT FARAS WITH THE READY TOMATO CHUTNEY
  19. TRY THEM, THEY'RE DELICIOUS
