Traditional Bengali recipe but I have made it in my style very easy yummy and quick to make

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For the marination-
  2. Rohu Fish 800 gram
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon
  5. For the gravy paste-
  6. Onion 1 big cut into four parts
  7. Ginger 1/2.inch
  8. Garlic 7-8 nos
  9. Tomato -3 nos.
  10. Green chillies 2 nos.
  11. Chilled curd-1/2 cup
  12. For Seasoning whole spices-
  13. Small mustard 1teaspoon
  14. Onion seeds -1/4 teaspoon
  15. Fenugreek seeds/methi daana -1/4 teaspoon
  16. Bay leaf 1no.
  17. Cinnamon stick-1/2 inch
  18. Dry spices powder -
  19. turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  20. Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon
  21. Kashmiri laal mirch 1 teaspoon
  22. Cumin/jeera powder 1/2 teaspoon
  23. Cardamom powder 1/2 teaspoon
  24. Fennel powder 1/4 teaspoon
  25. Garam Masala Powder 1/2teaspoon
  26. Salt to taste
  27. Oil for making gravy 4 tablespoons
  28. Other ingredients-
  29. Oil for frying Fish
  30. Handful of Coriander leaves chopped
  31. Dry Fenugreek leaves/kasuri methinks 1 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Rinse Rohu fish pieces 2-3 times with under running tap water then pat dry them with a clean and dry cloth.
  2. Marinate fish for 10 minutes by adding turmeric and salt.
  3. Make a paste by adding all the ingredients like onion,tomato,ginger,garlic,green chilli,chilled curd in a mixer jar.
  4. Heat oil in a nonstick kadai.
  5. Shallow fry marinated fish pieces to golden brown.
  6. From the same kadai take 4 tablespoon of hot oil in another pan .
  7. add in all the whole spices in medium flame and sautey until nice aroma starts coming.
  8. add in all the dry spices powder mix with a little amount of water so that spices do not get burn in hot oil. 8.sautey for a while when oil starts separating from spices add in gravy paste.
  9. fry gravy paste on high to low flame inbetween stir with a spatula.
  10. when oil starts separating from the masala add in shallow fried fish pieces.
  11. pour some water according to your taste or thickness of the gravy.
  12. add salt to taste
  13. allow it to boil rolling hot for 2-3 minutes then add kasuri methi and handful of chopped coriander leaves switch of flame
  14. serve hot with white Rice ,Chapati ,kulcha or Naan
