This is an adapted version of date loaf from the internet. My mom is a diabetic but still forever ready to appreciate my novice baking attempts. This one is for you Maa..no eggs no sugar and no maida .

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Whole wheat flour - 1 cup
  2. Dates- 3/4 cup
  3. Milk - 1.5 cup
  4. Olive Oil -half cup
  5. Baking soda-1 tsp
  6. Baking powder-3/4 tsp
  7. Walnuts dry roasted- half cup
  8. Cinnamon powder-half tsp *optional*
  9. Sultanas/black currants-2 tbsp optional


  1. Preheat oven at 180 degree centigrade
  2. Soak deseeded dates in half cup of warm milk.
  3. Leave 2 tbsp dates chopped aside
  4. Blend soaked dates into a smooth paste
  5. In a bowl sift flour , baking powder and baking soda from a height.
  6. Blend oil , remaining milk and date paste together
  7. Gently fold in the dry ingredients
  8. Add walnuts and chopped dates along with the sultanas.leave few to garnish
  9. In a greased 9 inch loaf pan , pour the batter
  10. Garnish with remaining nuts
  11. Bake at 180 for 35 to 40 mins till toothpick comes clean
