ABOUT Pudalangai (snake gourd) Kootu RECIPE

Kootu is a less spicy side dish which goes well with spicy veg curry. It's also taken with chapathi,poori etc

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 2 medium sized pudalangai,deseeded and chopped
  2. 1 medium onion chopped finely.
  3. 1 medium tomato chopped finely.
  4. Moong dal 1/2 cup washed and soaked for 20 minutes
  5. 1 tbsp grated coconut
  6. 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  7. Few garlic skin peeled and smashed
  8. 1 cup water
  9. 1/2 tesp turmeric powder
  10. Salt as per taste
  11. Seasoning ( 1/2 tesp mustard seeds,1/2 tesp urad dal, 2 dry red chilli slit,1/2 tesp asafoetida,1 tbsp oil and few curry leaves )

Instructions

  1. Place a deep cooking pan with oil on medium flame.
  2. Add seasoning let splutter.
  3. Stir in the garlic and onion till soft.
  4. Add tomatoes mix and stir.To this add salt and turmeric powder.
  5. Add moong dal and veg,stir to mix all,pour a cup of water.
  6. With pan covered cook on low flame till the veg is 90 % cooked
  7. Open lid,increase flame let cook till thick.
  8. Add grated coconut and coriander leaves,mix and remove.
  9. Serve hot as a side dish with rice.
