About Shorshe Ilish Recipe

Shorshe Ilish is a traditional Bengali recipe prepared with yogurt and mustard paste.It is not all at spicy dish but a bit creamy preparation.

Shorshe Ilish

Ingredients to make Shorshe Ilish

  • 7-8 ilish pieces
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 2-3 tablespoon mustard paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoon mustard oil
  • 5-6 green chilly
  • salt to taste

How to make Shorshe Ilish

  1. 1. Clean the ilish pieces and marinate them with salt and turmeric powder.keep aside for 15 minutes.
  2. 2. In the meantime grind the whole mustard seeds with little salt and 2 green chillies to a fine paste by adding 1-2 tablespoon of water along with it.
  3. 3. In a kadai add yogurt.mustard paste,salt and turmeric powder.Mix well.
  4. 4. Now add in slit green chillies and mustard oil.
  5. 5.Then add marinated ilish pieces and 1/2 cup of water into it.Mix well.
  6. 6. Now cover the kadai with a lid . Put the kadai on a low heat for 10 minutes.
  7. 7. After 10 minutes,turn off the heat and open the lid.
  8. 8. Drizzle 1 teaspoon mustard oil on top of the prepared dish.
  9. 9. Doi ilish is ready to serve.
  10. 10. Serve sorshe ilish with steamy hot plain rice.

My Tip:

You may substitute mustard oil with vegetable oil.However mustard oil gives amazing flavour to the dish.
