Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. For sambhar
  2. Arhar daal 1 cup
  3. Salt and green chilli to taste
  4. Tomato... 1 , finely chopped
  5. Sambhar powder ..1 tea spoon
  6. Mustard seeds...1/2 tea spoon
  7. Desi ghee or oil...1 tea spoon
  8. Turmeric powder....1/4 tea spoon
  9. Asafetida...1 pinch
  10. Curry leaves...1 sprig
  11. Whole red chilly...2
  12. Tamarind juice...1 tea spoon
  13. For vada
  14. Urad dhuli daal...1 cup
  15. Chana daal...1 table spoon
  16. Fenugreek seeds...1/2 tea spoon
  17. Salt to taste
  18. Oil to fry


  1. Pressure cook daal with salt, turmeric powder and sambhar powder to 4 or 5 whistles
  2. Heat oil add asafetida, mustard seeds, whole red chilly and curry leaves and let it splutter, add it to daal
  3. Add tamarind juice and see the consistency of the sambhar and adjust water accordingly
  4. For vada Soak both the daals and fenugreek seeds for 5 hours, grind to a paste
  5. Whisk properly , add salt
  6. Heat oil and fry vadaa on .Medium flame. Try to make vada with holes, if you can
  7. Serve
