ABOUT Masala dosa vada RECIPE

Have used two types of rava - idli rawa and chiroti rawa for the batter of the vada and stuffed with tasty potato filling. Served with green chutney, coconut chutney and sambhar.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. For the batter of vada:
  2. 1/2 cup idli rava
  3. 1/2 cup chiroti (fine) rawa
  4. 1/4 cup urad dal flour
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Water as required to adjust the consistency of the batter
  7. For stuffing:
  8. 3-4 boiled potatoes
  9. 1 small onion chopped finely
  10. Salt to taste
  11. 1 tsp sambhar masala powder
  12. 1 green chilli
  13. 1/2" piece of ginger
  14. 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  15. 1 small piece of coconut
  16. 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  17. For serving:
  18. Coconut chutney
  19. Green chutney
  20. Sambhar


  1. For the batter of the vada: Mix everything for the batter properly in a mixing bowl by adding sufficient water.
  2. Soak for atleast 30 minutes.
  3. If required add more water.
  4. Keep the batter thick and not flowy.
  5. In another bowl take smashed boiled potatoes, onions, sambhar masala, salt and lemon juice.
  6. Make paste of coriander leaves, coconut, ginger and chilli in the mixture.
  7. Add the paste to the boiled potatoes
  8. Mix everything properly and make round balls of the mixture.
  9. Add baking powder to the batter just before frying.
  10. Dip the potato balls in the batter and deep fry them in oil at medium flame.
  11. Serve the masala dosa vada with coconut chutney, green chutney and sambhar.
