ABOUT Momos RECIPE

Piping hot momos are a typical way to start the day in the north east. it also has its origin from mainland China.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1.5 cups plain flour/maida
  2. 1 medium sized carrot
  3. 2. cups of finely grated cabbage
  4. 1.5 teaspoon soy sauce
  5. Salt to season
  6. crushed black pepper to season (optional)
  7. Water as needed
  8. 1.5 teaspoon sesame oil
  9. 1 teaspoon oil to. grease + 1 teaspoon for kneading

Instructions

  1. for the dough:
  2. place the flour in a mixing bowl
  3. add the salt and required amount of water to knead a soft dough (stretchable)
  4. use 1 teaspoon oil to apply on the dough and keep it covered for 15 minutes
  5. for the filling:
  6. meanwhile grate the carrot finely and add it to the chopped cabbage
  7. heat the sesame oil in a non stick pan
  8. add the cabbage-carrot mix and sauté for few seconds till the vegetables starts to shrink
  9. add the salt and pepper to season and soy sauce
  10. mix well and sauté for another minutes before taking off heat
  11. transfer the filling in a bowl
  12. add sufficient water in a steamer and keep the trays greased
  13. scoop out small portions of the dough and keep ready for rolling
  14. roll each into small pooris( not too thick or thin)
  15. add a teaspoon(or more) of the stuffing in the center of the rolled dough
  16. seal and close in the desired momo shapes
  17. place the ready stuffed momos in the cavities of steamer tray
  18. once completed, add the tray in carefully in the steamer and close the lid
  19. steam for first 2 minutes on high heat and then reduce heat to steam for 5-7 minutes more
  20. take off heat post steaming, but keep the lid in for another 2 minutes
  21. post which, carefully take off the trays from the steamer and transfer the momos on a plate
  22. enjoy piping hot momos with momo chilli sauce
