Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Peas dal 1 cup
  2. Onion 1chopped
  3. Red chilly 3numbers
  4. Ginger 1 inch piece
  5. Curry leaves
  6. Salt
  7. Hing
  8. Oil for frying
  9. Tomato 2numbers
  10. Tamarind a gooseberry size
  11. Pepper 2tablespoon
  12. Coriander seeds 2tablespoon
  13. Jeera 2teaspoon
  14. Garlic 10number
  15. Shallots 10number chopped
  16. Mustard seeds
  17. Urud dal
  18. Coriander leaves


  1. Soak dal for 1 hour
  2. Grind dal,red chilly, ginger coarsely
  3. Add chopped onion chopped curry leaves and salt and mix well
  4. Heat oil
  5. Make small vadas and deep fry
  6. In a pan cook tomato softly
  7. Remove skin of tomato and mash it
  8. In a mixie grind coarsely pepper coriander seeds garlic jeera
  9. In a pan add oil and fry mustard seed and urud dal
  10. Saute chopped shallots
  11. Add curry leaves
  12. Add mashed tomato
  13. Add ground mixture and required water
  14. Add turmeric powder and salt
  15. Add hing
  16. Add tamarind juice
  17. Adjust taste
  18. Sprinkle chopped coriander leaves
  19. Don't let it boil switch off flame when the sides starts bubbling
  20. Add fried vadas and let it soak for half an hour
  21. Reheat before serving
