Ingredients to make Shevai Upma

  • 2 bowl Bombino Shevai
  • 2 medium size onion
  • 4 -5 green chilies
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp asafoetida
  • oil as required
  • salt to taste
  • 3 cups of hot water
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • coriander leaves and grated coconut (Optional) for garnishing.

How to make Shevai Upma

  1. Take onion and cut them length wise. Slit chilies from middle and make two parts and keep aside.
  2. Heat the pan with 1 tsp of oil. Add shevai and stir them on medium flame till turns little darker than its original color and keep aside.
  3. Heat another pan with 1tbsp of oil add mustard seeds. When it splutters add hing, onion and chilies and sauté till onion turns pink. Add shevai and again sauté for a minute.
  4. Add 3 cups of water in shevai. Add salt, sugar and lemon juice to taste. Mix well. Stir continuously till the Shevai absorbs all the water. Keep lid on the pan for 10 minutes.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves and grated coconut and serve hot or warm.
