Ingredients to make Tinpati Masala dal

  • 1 cup green urad dal
  • 1 cup split black gram dal
  • 1 cup chickpea (chana dal)
  • 3 medium size tomatoes
  • 3 medium size onion
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp grated garlic
  • 1 tsp chopped green chillies
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 turmeric powder
  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • 1/2 tsp coriander (dhania) powder
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 red chilli powder

How to make Tinpati Masala dal

  1. Soak all the three dals in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Add salt and turmeric powder a d Pressure cook the dals for three to four whistles or till cooked.
  3. Heat the ghee in a deep pan and add the cumin seeds.
  4. When the seeds cracklel, add the aesofitida , grated ginger , chopped garlic, chopped onion,chopped green chilli and let them cook till onion become brown
  5. Add chopped tomato , turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cook it for 5 minutes. Add water again cook it for another 5 minutes
  6. Add cooked dal and mix well cook it for 10 minutes
  7. Sprinkle the chopped coriander on top and serve hot with home made roti and salad

My Tip:

You can add butter square cube on top of hot dal at serving time.
