ABOUT Flattened Rice Pudding / Chirar Payesh RECIPE

Flattened rice / chirar payesh is also known as poha, powa, flat rice, pressed rice or flaked rice. Flattened rice pudding is traditionally made in Bangladesh. For sweetness khejurer gur is used traditionally but if you are unable to get this, use brown sugar.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Flattened rice / chira - 1/2 cup
  2. Rice flour - 2 tablespoons
  3. Milk - 2 1/2 liter
  4. Khejurer gur / brown sugar - 1 cup
  5. Cinnamon pods - 2 no
  6. Chopped almonds - 2 tablespoons
  7. Salt a pinch
  8. A few saffron soked in - 1 tablespoon of milk
  9. Cherry - 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Wash flattened rice / chira and strain the water . Need to be careful with wash it . After straining soak it with 1 cup of milk .
  2. Mix 1/2 cup of milk with rice flour and keep aside .
  3. Boil the rest of milk and cardamom pods together and bring it to boil . Stir occasionally .
  4. Add rice flour mix in boiling milk and stir constantly .
  5. Boil about 12 - 15 mins and add milk soaked flattened rice .
  6. Cook 5 minutes when flattened rice is cooked and milk becomes desire constancy add khejurer gur / brown sugar .
  7. Stir it and cook it till sugar dissolves add chopped almonds and removed from heat .
  8. Pour it in serving dish and garnish with milk soaked saffron and cherries let it cool .
  9. Serve Chirer Payesh/Flattened rice Pudding chilled.
