About Dhaba Style Dal Recipe

Dhaba style dal is very easy to make at home.

Dhaba Style Dal

Ingredients to make Dhaba Style Dal

  • Arhar dal 1 cup
  • Finely chopped onion 1/4 cup
  • Finely chopped tomatoes 1/2 cup
  • Finely chopped garlic 2 tbsp
  • ginger chilli paste 1tbsp
  • turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • bay leaf 2
  • Roasted fenugreek power 1tbsp
  • coriander powder 1 tbsp
  • Roasted cumin powder 1tbsp
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder 1tbsp
  • Garam masala 1-2 tsp
  • Black salt 1 tbsp
  • hing 1 tsp
  • sugar 1 tsp
  • butter 30 gm
  • oil 3 tbsp
  • Small green chillies 6-8 pieces
  • Desi ghee 2tbsp
  • curry leaves 8-10
  • salt to taste
  • cumin seeds 3 tbsp
  • cardamom 2
  • clove 2

How to make Dhaba Style Dal

  1. Bring a bowl, add arhar Dal.Wash and soak it for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Pressure cook the dal with 2 cups of water till completely cooked.
  3. Heat butter and oil in a non-stick kadai.Add garlic, cook for few seconds.
  4. Add 1tbsp of cumin seeds ,cardamom and clove, when it crackled,add ginger chilli paste and cook for 30 seconds.
  5. Add onions, stir fry until they are translucent.
  6. Add tomatoes and cook cook it completely.
  7. Now add coriander powder, red chilli powder, roasted cumin powder, garam masala, black salt and 3-4 tbsps of water, stir it.
  8. now add cooked dal into this, mix well and cook for 3-4 minutes .
  9. Off the flame, keep it aside.
  10. Heat ghee in a tadka pan, add cumin seeds, hing, sugar, red chilli powder, green chillies, curry leaves ,when it crackled add this tadka on the top of dal.
  11. now Sprinkle some fenugreek powder and serve hot with rice or roti.
