Ingredients to make Kanda Poha

  • 1 and 1/2 cup poha (flattened rice that is medium thick)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 sprig of curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp peanuts
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional)
  • salt to taste
  • oil 2 tbsp
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

How to make Kanda Poha

  1. Wash and clean the poha in a strainer under running water. The poha absorbs water while rinsing. Set it aside.
  2. In a kadai, heat oil on a medium flame. Add in the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and let them crackle.
  3. Add peanuts, saute it well, then add the onion, chopped chillies and curry leaves. Saute it till the onions turn golden in colour. While the onions are cooking, add in the lemon juice, salt and sugar to the poha. Mix it well together.
  4. Once the onions are done, add the turmeric to it. (If we add turmeric to the poha, it will give raw smell, so it's better to add the turmeric into the oil.) Then add in poha and mix it well.
  5. Garnish with coriander, nylon sev, grated coconut and pomegranate to serve.

My Tip:

While rinsing the poha, see that you don't rinse it much or it will break. We want the poha to be soft but intact.
