Uttapam or ooththappam or Uthappa is a dosa-like dish made by cooking ingredients in a batter. Unlike a dosa, which is crisp and crepe-like, uttapam is a thick pancake, with toppings cooked right into the batter.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Dosa Batter - 1 kg pack
  2. Grated carrot - 1 cup
  3. cucumber - 2 chop
  4. onion - 2 chop
  5. tomato - 1 big chop
  6. coriander - chop
  7. Green chilly - 1-2
  8. For Batter preparation - 2 cup raw rice, 1 cup urad daal, 1 tsp methi seeds soak in water for 4 hours.


  1. Grind rice and keep aside, now grind urad dal with methi seeds and set a side. Grind one tbsp of cooked rice along with water. Mix all 3 pastes together in a wide mouth bowl and allow to set overnight for fermentation. In the morning, add salt in the batter and your batter is ready to prepare idli,dosa or uttapam.
  2. Mix all vegetables together except grated carrot.
  3. Heat non stick pan, spread little ghee add 1 big spoon full batter on the pan and spread like a pan cake.
  4. Now spread veggies equally on all sides and now on top of veggies spread carrot, cover with lid and cook for 3-4 mins.
  5. Flip to other side and cook once again for 3-4 mins (Do not press dosa as the shape of uthappam will be spoiled and it will not look fluffy).
  6. Serve hot with sambar and coconut chutney.
