Ingredients to make Badam Burfi

  • almonds - 3/4 cup
  • jaggery - 1/2 cup
  • cardamom powder - pinch, optional
  • ghee - 1 tbsp + extra for greasing

How to make Badam Burfi

  1. Grease a plate with ghee and keep aside. Grind almonds till fine powder.
  2. Take jaggery in a pan, add a tbsp of water and keep on low flame.
  3. Stir to break pieces of jaggery if any. It will melt soon so keep an eye. Add cardamom powder if using.
  4. Just when it looks like its thickening, (around 5 minutes) switch off flame, add ghee and ground almonds. Mix well.
  5. Pour onto greased plate and spread immediately. Leave to cool for 5 minutes and cut into pieces.

My Tip:

Ideally, the jaggery has to come to soft ball stage. But since the quantity which i made was very less, I didn't wait to check. It would have over cooked. I switched off flame as soon as it started boiling. It hardens very soon, so spreading on the tray has to be done fast. Keep another greased spatula ready in case you need to spread the mixture.
